The Looking Down Challenge...02/09/09
The Challenge: Show us your interpretation of "Looking Down."
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Bill Pador, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, Johnloguk, Trevlan, FotoEffects, Hillary, MyKey, and myself.
The Result: Looking Down Challenge

We took this of ourselves after a long day of skiing from overhead! It took many shots to get everyone in the shot and several cameras.

Sorry that I had to post so early...I won't get home until after 10:00 tomorrow evening.

The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Bill Pador, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, Johnloguk, Trevlan, FotoEffects, Hillary, MyKey, and myself.
The Result: The Liquid Challenge

I was away skiing this weekend and all the liquids I came across were frozen. This one caught my eye so I thought I'd use it for the Monday Challenge. I am just getting home so it's a late post.

The Motion Challenge...01/26/09
The Challenge: Show us your interpretation of "Motion."
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), Bill Pador, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, Johnloguk, Trevlan, FotoEffects, Hillary, MyKey, and myself.
The Result: The Movement of the Sun

I took a different stance on this and actually took several shots of the sun setting behind the Flatiron Mountains in Boulder, Colorado. The sun here moves so quickly and as soon as it hides behind those mountains, the temperature drops drastically! This is best viewed in a larger format.

Alternative shots were traffic shots: http://mspencer.smugmug.com/gallery/7117633_VhysC#459819575_49GJH

and a carousel shot: http://mspencer.smugmug.com/gallery/4880511_d8V5V#291108293_iFG5p

The SOOC Still Life Challenge...01/19/09
The Challenge: Show us your best Straight Out Of the Camera (SOOC) Still Life
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Bill Pador, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, Johnloguk, Trevlan, FotoEffects, Hillary, MyKey, and myself.
The Result: Before the Beating

If you notice, I took this in manual, which I never do. One of my New Year's Resolutions was to start shooting in manual. I always like to add a border or frame and some words to pieces like this but since this was a sooc shot I didn't. However, you can find my "poster photo" here: http://mspencer.smugmug.com/gallery/7136172_DtDXX#457754293_kG9WV

Any feedback and comments are welcome.

Best viewed larger!

I didn't participate in the challenge this week formally but thought I'd post my interpretation. I don't drink coffee so I had to enlist the help of my husband, Dave. He's always so patient with my photography endeavors!

I tried to create a color in the images to resembled the color of coffee.

The first photo is a coffee plant I took while visiting Florida over the holidays.

The Reflection Challenge...01/05/09
The Challenge: Show us your interpretation of the word, "Reflection."
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), Bill Pador, Karina Boese, Johnloguk, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, The Curious Camel, Karina Boese, MyKey, Trevlan, and myself.
The Result: Reflection of a Photographer...Looking for Where the Passion Began.

As I think about where my passion for photography began I think back to my great-grandfather. This old Kodak camera I am holding in this photo was first patented in 1902 and purchased by my great grandfather in 1919 on the very day he adopted my grandmother from a Catholic Orphanage in Washington, D.C. The first thing he thought about once he chose my grandmother was to take a photograph of her. I have the very first photograph ever taken of my grandmother with this camera. Over the years, my great grandfather took many photos, of which I still have many. Although I never met him, his daughter, my grandmother, gave me this camera as she knew my love of photography and photos. I cherish this old camera and it sits in a place of prominence in my home, next to it's first photo.

My family has always cherished capturing treasured moments and as I look back over my life in photos this past year, I am able to recall fondly all of the precious times captured. As part of the challenge, I photographed this in a mirror so that is why the lettering is reversed.

The Sense Challenge...12/29/08
The Challenge: Show us your interpretation of the word, "Sense," or any spelling of the word.
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), Bill Pador, Johnloguk, Creative Deviance, The Curious Camel, MyKey, Trevlan, and myself.
The Result: Sense of Fear! I have a huge phobia of spiders of any kind so taking a photo for this challenge really was a challenge for me and a true sense of fear overtook me. I tried to get the spider to spell out "fear" for the challenge like in Charlotte's Web but he wasn't into it.
